Since The Old Republic's release in 2011, even more MMOs and MMO-style games have emerged on the market, including Destiny and Amazon's New World most recently. With the Legacy of the Sith expansion, which Boyd says is The Old Republic's biggest to date, the enduringly popular MMO gives players greater control and freedom of their character with combat styles. It's great that we can meet gamers where they are, instead of trying to have a one-size-fits-all approach," Boyd added. "Switching to a hybrid model of subscription or free-to-play was also a big win for us, and something I think we've evolved really well over the years. The lack of space battles has been a particularly strong sticking point for Star Wars Battlefront criticism, along with the limited map selection. Then, Electronic Arts talked more about the game and some of that enthusiasm waned. Of course the people who do Battlefield would take on Battlefront. Yes, it’s from the same guys who do Battlefield and it’s published by Electronic Arts (like most all future Star Wars games), but the property is strong enough on its own merits that enthusiasm is still high.Īt E3 2013, when EA confirmed that DICE was working on Star Wars Battlefront it almost seemed like a no-brainer.
